After I graduated from Pomona College in 2004 (B.A. in Psychology), I joined Teach For America and spent two years teaching and learning with some of Atlanta's most brilliant and energetic first graders. With a background in cognitive development and a keen interest in science education, I was deeply troubled to discover how many obstacles stand between children growing up in urban communities and quality science education. Because I believe that far too many of our future scientists are being …view moreleft behind, I am deeply committed to expanding opportunities for early science education, both in urban schools and in the communities they serve. My idea, Project Epiphany, will bring together a unique set of community resources to provide transformative science learning experiences to children growing up in high-poverty, urban communities. As a current Ph.d. student at Emory University, my research interests include science education policy and reform and informal science education. When I'm not reading, writing, or talking about science education, you might find me out under a dark sky with my husband and one of our telescopes.
