I am a classic career changer and proud of it! In my first life I was a Chemical Engineer. After a few years, I realized that supervising the production of paper or m&ms was not my long-term calling. In 2003, I joined Teach For America and havent looked back since. Since that time I have gained an interest in International Comparative Education. In 2005 I travelled on a Fulbright Fellowship to Japan for an educational expedition. During that year my service and school was split between Kingston Jamaica and London. I worked with the vocational arm of the Ministry of Education and saw first hand the disappointment of the secondary education system. I decided to write my dissertation on the topic of Community boarding schools for historically under-served children and have been empowered to write this proposal to make years of research and a passionate idea a reality that will revolutionize quality education for many children. I am planning for it to be the best practices from the KIPP Model, the SEED School and the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Culturally, I was born and raised in New Jersey by Jamaican parents and a strong network of extended family. In the last few years I received my Jamaican citizenship in preparation for the founding of The Jamaica Leadership Academy and a representation of who I am in my lifes work. Currently, I work as a school administrator charged with academic instruction and curriculum.
