Adolescent Education and Literacy

After graduating with a degree in English from Davidson College, where I tutored in an after school program for at risk students, I joined the 2004 Teach For America Charlotte charter corps. As a Teach for America corps member, I taught sixth grade language arts and knew that I wanted to make a bigger impact on the reading development and enjoyment of students. I currently work at the Success for All Foundation, a non-profit education reform organization that develops research-based and proven …view more reading program for students from all backgrounds. My commitment to education, and particularly expanding reading opportunity for all students, has led me to develop and launch Girl Talk, the idea I have posted on Ideablob. I truly believe in the power of literature and reading as tools for developing not only key skills but also an awareness of ourselves and the world around us, and I hope Girl Talk will create more opportunities for young women to find themselves and their place in the world.
