Bartram's Garden is the oldest living botanic garden in America, former home of explorers and naturalists John Bartram (1699 to 1777)and William Bartram(1739-1823). John and William traveled from Florida to Lake Ontario and west to the Mississippi River exploring, collecting, and seeking to understand all forms of anture. The Bartrams are credited with introducing into cultivation more than 200 native plants; at its peak more than 2,000 native and exotic plants grew in Bartram's botanic garden. Today Bartram's Garden is the site of garden and National Historic Landmark Bartram House, welcoming over 36,000 annually, including nearly 10,000 school children who participate in high-quality, interactive lessons on the environment, natural science, art, and Colonial American history.
