Daewoo Park is Guest Advisor

We are pleased to introduce Dr. Daewoo Park as ideablob.com’s guest advisor for the week of October 27, 2008.  Dr. Park is the Director for the Xavier Entrepreneurship Center in the Williams College of Business. He is the College's D.J. O’Conor Fellow and has taught entrepreneurship, management and strategy courses for undergraduate, MBA and executive MBA students.

Dr. Park has published his research in numerous entrepreneurship journals such as the Journal of Small Business Management, Journal of Small Business Strategy, and Journal of Management and Enterprise Development, as well as in prestigious strategy and management journals including the Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Executive, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Research, Management International Review, Multinational Business Review and Thunderbird International Business Review. He has served as a guest editor for several management journals, and his research was supported by the U.S. Department of Education (CIBER research fellowship) and numerous foundations.

According to Dr. Park, he taught the only online simulation-based MBA capstone strategy course among the Jesuit colleges, has managed the annual high school business simulation competitions on campus, and implemented the College's undergraduate simulation competitions. In 2008, he successfully designed and led the college’s MBA study tour to Korea and Japan.

Heidi Neck Serves as ideablob Guest Advisor

We are pleased to introduce Heidi Neck as ideablob.com’s guest advisor for the week of October 20, 2008.

Neck, the Jeffry A. Timmons Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies at Babson College, is passionate about entrepreneurship education, as she believes new venture creation is the engine of society.  Neck completed her Ph.D. in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2001.  She holds a B.S. in Marketing from Louisiana State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado, Boulder. 

In addition to entrepreneurship education, her research interests include corporate entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship.  She has published numerous book chapters, research monographs, and refereed articles in such journals as The Journal of Small Business Management, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, and The International Journal of Entrepreneurship Education. She is on the editorial board of Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice and The Academy of Management Learning & Education. Neck has been on faculty for the Price-Babson Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educators (SEE) since 2003 and is the faculty director of the SEE reunion program, SEE+. 

Join Global Entrepreneurship Week's Race to BE

Hey Blobbers! If you haven’t heard yet, November 17-23 is Global Entrepreneurship Week. Russell Simmons has launched a competition during this week called “Race to BE.” It’s for those between the ages of 18-29 who aspire to be entrepreneurs. This is an amazing chance for young entrepreneurs to get recognition, and another opportunity for you to get your idea out there! The three categories are film, music and fashion.

SPRING HOUSE, Penn., October 10, 2008 — Advanta Corp. (NASDAQ: ADVNB; ADVNA) announced today that San Francisco, CA resident Emily Pilloton is the September winner of ideablob.com’s monthly contest for the best small business idea, as voted on by the ideablob community. 

Pilloton’s initiative – Project H Design – is a nonprofit organization that supports, creates and delivers humanitarian and life-improving product design solutions. Pilloton has assembled a team of product designers, social entrepreneurs and manufacturers to get the project underway. After two successful initiatives, the team is now focused on designing and producing toys for elementary math education with applications in both the developing world and the U.S. retail market.

Last week (9/30 - 10/2) ideablob hung out at Babson University.  The buzz on campus was incredible.  We had a blobriffic time and can't wait to come back.
