Magnetic tarp that can stick to car

The tarp will have very powerful magenets on one end and is weighted on the other to keep the tarp from fluttering about in the wind. This would also be made of a waterproof and reflective material that not only keeps the user dry but it would be able to be seen at night and keeps the sun off it during the day. Useful when you're stuck in the middle of nowhere and it's pouring and you need to change a tire and want to stay dry or in the middle of the desert and you need to check on your engine and you want to keep in the shade.

try using the same material they use on camping tents. it strong keeps water out, light, strong, easy to fold up.

Shepps iidea of an emergency reflective tarp sounds great. how about this a tarp thats a bright orange with reflective tape across the middle and edges. 2ft in hieght and 3or4ft in lenght comes with magnet sewn inti it every twelve inches or so. or small suction cups every twelve inches. so that if you are on the side of the road and changing a tire. you take the tarp out of your trunk open it like a blanket and stick it on to the back or side of your car whatever part is facing traffic so on-coming traffic can see you easier?

This sounds like a wonderful idea! I think you could probably just have powerful (Neodymium) magnets or something similar sewn in at the corners or every so many feet. As for the materials, I would definitely create a the every day tarp out of the woven ripstop polyethylene that you see everywhere, its pretty much the standard blue tarp, instead of grommets, or in addition to the grommets, you use magnets.

I think you could also target the auto industry where people maybe don't have garages but they want to use car covers. In your model, you could probably create a nice water proof car cover out of something like a soft tight wound micro-fiber with magnets sewn into it. I hate bending over to tie car covers on. Maybe just add a bit more padding to this version, so as to not scratch the car.

A third idea, I have seen in my travels a little thing that is made to clip onto a tarp, it has like a ratcheting interface and kinda pinches the tarp in claws, and that way it gives you a ring type grommet wherever you want on the tarp, even if its dead in the middle (useful for tents and so forth) long story short, what if you made one that clips on like that and has a really strong magnet in it? Maybe you could just sell those little hooks at auto and camping stores. I think they would sell.

I like also the idea to make an emergency one, that has a reflective coating. Maybe even one made out of bright orange so that if you are on the side of the road and changing a tire, on-coming traffic can see it easier?
