Seven Still Waters GARDENS & BOOKS that OVERCOME VIOLENCE

For MILLIONS of children throughout the world that have been effected by violence, natural disasters, or other life threatening struggles or those who are "at risk" to violence. Our goal is to teach children how to garden in a small space near their home or village. Then use various teaching metaphors in the garden to help provide food and overcome the violence. We will also implement a children's literature program and key on books that instill hope and inspiration. We are starting with the DR of Congo; we have already been given land in Kinshasa to expedite our cause. There are over 50,000 homeless children in the Congo. We will build or renovate a school for some of these children.

CongoKid advised on Seven Still Waters GARDENS & BOOKS that OVERCOME VIOLENCE

Wonderful advice given so far and it is great to hear the ideas flowing from this project. The book is a great idea and the Congo has many talented artists and this is such a great story that getting something like that published could go over big. But lets us not loose the focus on the biggest problem and that is, HUNGER. This project has so much merit and opportunity to change not just a Childs life but a community, region and even country! Who knows maybe a continent? In the my opinion and the advise I would offer is to discover a way that individuals, families and communities could sponsor a child with enough resource to get the seeds and enough head start to take a child off the street for life. And it sounds like to me there are 4 growing seasons so this project really can save a child from hunger for the rest of their lives. Then have the ability to update the sponsor vie pictures and progress reports of the child as they grow and post it to a website that sponsors can log into to see their Child 's garden and life growth. That would be way cool! I could get excited about keeping up to date on someone I helped 10,000 miles away! Keep up the good work!!!

sevenworld advised on Seven Still Waters GARDENS & BOOKS that OVERCOME VIOLENCE

Great advice! I was thinking of something similar a few days ago, where we find a local book already written then impliment it but then I thought that the opposing side might feel that it is written to futher their cause. But this idea of creating blazes a new path. Maybe even a contest with certain guildlines, i.e. non religious based, teaches a principle that breaks down conflict without relating who is right and wrong, creates an even playing field, maybe even shows pictures of two opposing groups working together, playing sports together, or building something together.

I agree certain endorsements could have an adverse effect on the main goal of this cause. We'll have to be careful with this issue.

I often picture the first book arriving and being read for the first time.

bhurd advised on Seven Still Waters GARDENS & BOOKS that OVERCOME VIOLENCE

What about having a well known person from the area where the books are to be distributed write the book and a local artists do the illustrations. I think this would be more work, but I think this could be more effective. I agree with making this an international project you need to stike a cord with each culture so that movement can really take place. Fame seems to always attract attention, you just need to be selective on the individual who endorses the book. I think the message of tolerance and unity can be expressed a lot of ways, the real question is how the movement takes place. The idea of children's books would obveously focus on the children, a really good place to start. I think this is wonderful idea and you're on to something.

Good advice, the culture, customs, and beliefs of each place will all have to be taken into consideration. Each country, villiage and family would have the right to decide if each book was right for them. Although The Sneetches would be one of the main books to focus on...I would consider other books that teach a similar messages that teach toleration for one anothers differences. It will be important to form an international board that will help unite this cause to other charities throughout the world.

I have run this idea past a couple of relatives- and the feedback I got from them is just to be careful about the books that are picked. Something that one parent might read to teach a certain message to their child- another parent might not read to their child. I think this is an amazing idea and just full of potential! Keep up the good work!

We will also implement a children's literature program and key on books that instill hope and inspiration. We are starting with the DR of Congo; we have already been given land in Kinshasa to expedite our cause. There are over 50,000 homeless children in the Congo. We will build or renovate a school for some of these children.

We will also implement a children's literature program and key on books that instill hope and inspiration.
reddog advised on Seven Still Waters GARDENS & BOOKS that OVERCOME VIOLENCE

Sourcing will be key for new and used books from many publishing companies and Multi-National corporations. If you can get books donated and/or at reduced rates from multiple avenues then you will have more funds for distribution, logistics, and publicity. I like the idea of donated used books--possibly out-dated that can be translated into many languages...Good Luck!
