Pick a niche at first, once you've created a loyal customer base, listen to their feedback and expand to offer treats to other animals.

MWDabbs advised on If wisdom comes with age, what does it take for teens to be taken seriously in the business world? How young is 'too young'?

Initiative, Persistence, Flexibility/Focus; Research and Proof of Concept. The first three components are essential individual components. Flexibility/Focus may seem contradictory - know where you want to go, be somewhat flexible in how you get there; know what you need to stick to but be willing to compromise on the non-critical details. Be willing to compromise on the critical details when/if there is a solid reason to do so.

Research - know what you are going to do; know it better than anyone else. Talk to others; actively question other professionals; develop relationships with them; assess/scrutinize whether they really know what they are talking about. Keep your vision central, don't dismiss or accept your own or other's opinions outright. Understand that most businesses do not fail on the basis of technical expertise, but for not understanding their market and customers; and not understanding or developing their logistical capabilities. Understand the logistics of your business - how the personnel, materials and information essential to it will move.

Proof of Concept - More than anything else, coupled with good research - this is what will separate you from just about everyone else. Do It - demonstrate what you can do, detail it, show it in tangible form and action. The more you can show that you are walking and not just talking, the more likely any intelligent person in business is to take you seriously - regardless of your age. Keep records of everything that you do - pictures, notes, testimonials for the purpose of combining it all into presentations as needed.

Inventorspot underlines the importance of being of legal age to enter into contracts. That can be a legitimate barrier to entry, especially if you do not have a legal guardian able/willing to help you out. In cases like that, you might check with www.score.org - Service Corps of Retired Executives, an extension of the small business administration for guidance; and perhaps seek out a mentor. There are definitely ways around it though you definitely want to stick with people you can trust.
