Be careful to protect the privacy of all families posting. They may inadvertently share information they didn't really mean to put in the hands of a malingering web surfer. No last names or home towns of course. Even so, sickos can figure out a lot from cues like "Midtown Little League" and "Thomas Jefferson High School" and "Doctor Smith in Philadelphia" and "Washington County Social Services."

Hello ^_^

I'm an adult with autism. Obviously, I've been autistic my whole life. I was never taken to a doctor to be diagnosed when I was child because my parents were rather ignorant of the existence of autism, but that's not a bad thing. It is true that I had a lot of negative experiences growing up because of my differences in perception, thinking, and expressing myself, but through all my experiences I have learned something very valuable.

Autism is not a disorder that is to be frowned upon. A psychological disorder is what happens when a normal brain malfunctions. Autism, however, is a brain that developed differently since birth and, therefore, functions differently than a normal (neuro-typical) brain. An autistic person is, essentially, no different than a normal person. Even among neuro-typicals, there is wide variety of ways in which people think, perceive and express themselves. Autism is kind of like an anomaly in that is a greater amount of difference than most of society.

One thing I've learned in my lifetime is that people (all people to include autistics) create the world they are familiar with, the world they grew to know through the experiences they've had throughout their entire past. The worse the world they know, the worse the world they create. The better the world they know, the better the world they create. The best treatment there is for anyone with any problem, or even no problems, is to feel loved and appreciated.

I don't agree with the "treatments" out there for autism, or anything else for that matter. On a general level, it is treating the symptoms, and in return, creating different symptoms, as opposed to simply treating the problem where it all began. On a specific level, autistic treatment is about trying to make autistics be more like the rest of the world. Why not embrace their differences as I have learned to embrace my own? Everyone has a unique personality, and everyone can teach you something wonderful if you just take the time to accept that they are different and listen to them.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Peace of Life

I would enjoy seeing focus put on awarenes and acceptance. Autistic individuals have so much to offer with or without the ability to verbalize. They're very unique individuals with understanding can teach us "typically" developing people a lot of different lessons. So many times these individuals are misunderstood or thought to have nothing to offer but that is so untrue. It's us that need to change and explore their world and embrace the differences instead of trying to conform them to our rules. My son loves to spin, so what, let him spin, it's relaxing to him. His noises that he use to make before becoming verbal were expressive forms of communication. Some look at those are annoying and inappropriate. It would just be nice to see more people focus on the positives.

Since the government is trying to prevent the makers of vaccines from being held responsible to poisoning these children, we need to force them to be held accountable for the trajedy they have caused!

For the email campaign look into iContact, http://zowbie.icontact.com both are great services that I have been VERY pleased with. Another email campaign service is www.myemma.com, however they seem to be more expensive than iContact. The company also provides hosting for $8.95 a month with unlimitted email addresses.

While the idea shows merit I'd recommend the following:
1. Consider operational cash flows. While this is a worthwhile endeavor and is endearing as we all love our children, look for ways that it can be self-sustaining. It may be as simple as establishing a not-for-profit organization and accepting donations, state/federal grants or both.
2. Community based sites enable collaboration. You've thought of this some and pointed out the profile and treatment plans. Now look further from the medical, psychological and legislative fronts. Parents of children with autism really feel overwhelmed at times. Providing them community helps. Providing them with a community containing factual answers about today's service availabilities and tomorrow's potential service's based on medical/psychological research findings/studies and governmental support makes this site a service with measurable value. Measurable value represents a key metric for grants. The medical & psychological research/studies could be automated for lower cost overhead.
As a parent of an autistic child I wish you the best of luck.
Drop me a line when it's live with the URL please.

People need the chance to tell their story. Very often there is healing in the telling for both the teller and the listening. This site is meaningful for people who are living the reality of Autism....people who are surviving, and striving for a brighter tomorrow for their children.
