Idea Description

Laughter is the best medicine! I would send teams of artists and educators (primarily clowns!) to teach circus skills, clown, music and theater residencies to children and families in developing countries. While international and local grassroots agencies struggle to provide basic necessities to children in developing countries (healthcare, food, water, clothing), few initiatives attend to the psycho-social wellbeing of children who face the daily consequences of conflict, crisis, poverty and disease. "Arts interventions" would promote resiliency, provide children with new skills and build confidence while placing value on each child's sense of hope, play, humor and imagination.

What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?

1, I would bring a team of 3 artists (clowns!) to Ethiopia to perform and teach a clown, theater and music workshop for 100's of Sudanese children living in refugee camps. 2, I would buy a video camera to document the exchange, creating a short film about the project. I would use the film to get the word out about this work, and to raise money and awareness both for the plight of Sudanese children and for future arts interventions.
