Idea Description
Help us create exciting ways to meaningfully engage with the performing arts online, support artists and fund their work! As a choreographer with a technology background, I’m developing free downloadable tools to help performing artists attract online audiences by offering interactive web features that are educational and entertaining. This builds a dedicated online audience who support the artist through theater attendance, volunteering and donations. These tools also generate new modes of support, including revenue through web traffic, sponsorship, and increased performance opportunities. Audiences are enthusiastic about our initial efforts which were featured in Business Week Magazine!
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Build and distribute three of many new online tools to enable artists to better support their work:
1) Implement web-streaming capabilities from rehearsals with integrated instant messaging, allowing audiences to "attend" live rehearsals online and text the performers questions.
2) Create an online theater where visitors can watch and direct performances from multiple perspectives, including backstage views and the performers' point of view via body-mounted cameras.
3) Develop a tool to request and tabulate the geographic location of artist's online audiences so that theaters in new cities can be approached with ready-made audience bases.

Add a commentThis is a really exciting idea - I think this could be really valuable to dance and theater companies struggling to grow their base of support and find funding!
This is a really good use of technology in the arts. Misnomer has a team that is capable and visionary- I think a realy good combination. I know Chris Elam has been using multimedia along with developing innovative choreography for years and this would be a fantastic way to let someone with real talent spread excellent ideas. I give them my vote.
This seems like a great way for people to have more direct relationships with artists. I think this is where the art world is heading. It's not enough to just put out a product and wait for people to buy it. Audience's are demanding more diverse, engaging encounters with the artists they support, and it looks like this team really has some good thoughts about how that can happen. They get my vote!
Misnomer is renovating dance audiences by reaching them where they are now. You Go!
Chris Elam has been working hard to introduce and engage younger, technologically savy audiences with dance. Misnomer has received a lot of media attention for their creative endeavors. They get my vote!
I like that the tools they are developing will be free and available to other organizations, this is truly a great service for the performing arts community. Many companies will benefit from this work, not just misnomer!
Misnomer has been pushing the boundaries of performance dance. I'm looking forward to see what they come up. good luck.
this is a great idea, i would definitely take the time to visit the studio.
I saw Misnomer Dance perform at my college last year and I think this is a brilliant way to reach younger audiences. This absolutely gets my vote!
Misnomer has done some spectacular things for the dance community and I expect them to do many more. Go forth!
The dance community definitely lacks an internet-dance forum and this sounds like the project for the job. Cheers to you, Chris Elam
Bringing more arts and imagination back into our life is the only hope we have to breathe. Thanks for being so creative.
Good Luck, Kristen and Chris Elam / Misnomer Dance Theater. Tae Geun.
Genious idea...... LIke this idea very much..... bodymounted cameras? hmmm Why would not art of dance be on line, when museums are? By web.... and galleries.... and so on... Them touristauthorities of each town in the whole Real World should be intersted to put some money into this one too.... Another thing would be to try out choreography by making scripts for them movements and put into animations for them avatars that are found aorund the internet world.. Am attending the SecondLife by Linden company in USA.... www.secondlife.com and maybe this is another market for the art of dance too? Nine IZ

Good Luck! I support your drive and ambition towards new ideas.
misnomer introduced me to modern dancfe and I'm hooked. the web sit ekeeps me informed. I refer friends, some of whom have thanked me for turing them on to dance. This is a project with legs, let it run!
Reeeally terrific! I wish more companies allowed us this window into their process...break legs! Susan
I am so proud to be a part of this dance company-- the work itself is spectacular and innovative, and the ideas and initiative behind building new audences for our company, and other companies like us on the contemporary arts scene, is so sorely needed! I will consider it a boon to the dance community at large if we win. Please vote for us!!
I don't know if others here saw the article in the Times, but it's definitely worth looking up on the NYT.com site. Artists have been experimenting with technology for a long time, but this is something that could revolutionize the arts and its audiences.
Being a former Misnomer myself (back in the day when it was jen, jocelyn, julian, jess chris and myself) I am proud to say that working with such creative and open artists that envelope and live Chris' work has been a blessing.
I voted for Misnomer because Rachel Zoffness is the boss of me and Mamaroneck High School Alumni are good like that.
there's this one dancer misnomer has -i don't know her name- but she's just beautiful. she's blonde and strong looking, and i just can't stop watching her when they perform. she takes my breath away everytime. m
I think this idea could be a great tool in making dance more accessable to people- and could be the beginning of something big...
Excellent idea with real potential to impact accessibiility, awareness, appreciation, education and participation! You get my vote!
What an awesome project Christ! I hope you win because the dance community really needs this :) I was sad to perform our last run of "Land Flat." I have to admit, it was always my favorite and I will miss Brynne! Good luck with this contest and best of wishes to you and your incredible company in the new year! ~Kendra~
jaki, this idea is kick ****. i voted for it. and i will tell other people.
This looks amazing! Misnomer work is always leading-edge
I would actually have voted for this idea if I had come to this page before end 2007. I'm very excited by this idea form a choregrapher ! That's awesome. Good luck, whatever benefits this competition gives you !
Fantastic idea - I don't see how to vote, but count me as a supporter.
I must say this show was fabulous! Definitely can see it applied to my idea, yet more so it's a must see show. Keep up the great work!
