  I am a cyclist "about town", but know absolutely nothing when it comes to repair. I would like to see diagrams on your site labeling the different parts of a bike and love the idea of demonstration videos for how to fix common problems. For instance, the guy who puts a new tube on my bike does it in about 3 minutes. I could do it myself. I want to do it right, but don't trust myself. Show me. I would also like to see a video of lance staring down ulrich before taking off during the tour. Lastly, this is a great idea and wish you a lot of luck. I would use your site. (And I think may more people would moving forward - bikes are enjoying a renaissance.)

  I like this idea. Although I'm not a cyclist, it does seem like a category where there is a community. So, I would allow people to link up, share ideas. Also, I think the organization is key -- perhaps do it on a city by city basis (appears to be a local type of business).
  
  And, having the online plans should be a way to get people coming back to the site.
  
  You may even allow user reviews, videos, and comments.

  THere is already an idea on ideablob that desires to create a cyclist's mapquest. Maybe you could partner with them to create a site that truly meets the cyclist's utilitarian needs as well as their needs to connect with other bikers. I would look into ad swaps and other ways of getting the word out that are relatively cheap and effective. I also think you should consider starting locally. This would allow you to create the real human relationships or perhaps utilize your own cyclist network to create the site, and once it grows in size I would think that you could expand to other cities and geographic areas that service bicycles.
