Art Can Change the World!
Art Can Change the World!
Idea Description
I'm a high school art teacher, and try to instill the importance of giving and using our individual strengths, passions, and talents to communicate to a wider audience, as well as help others. I would start an art education foundation, at a high school level, that uses art to create opportunities for young artists, as well as raise awareness and funds for various causes and communities. Teens often get a bad rap for being selfish; I've found that teens care a great deal and are more than willing to get involved if they are given something to care about.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
I would set up a proper work space, purchase art supplies, and look for strategic alliances to come up with important, relevant, exciting, and creative projects that will impact individuals, important causes, communities, and help make the world a better place.
Vote for it now.

Q1: I could use a few recommendations for good books and courses on starting, managing, and growing a non-profit.
This is a great way to engage students who might not otherwise have a creative outlet through the increasing emphasis on testing and core curricula. You have my vote. I think this is an awesome idea! Where better to begin a program like this than with young people who can truly make a difference when shown and give the chance! Teens with the right tools, words of encouragement and proper guidance can make the world a better place. This would be an excellent opportunity for them to learn just that!
Brilliant idea! I've seen teacherbeth put this idea in action, inspiring unenthusiastic students to create art for a cause, while at the same time raising money for a great charity. Teacherbeth's Breast Cancer awareness project not only fired-up students, it bathed the entire community in the power of art and breast cancer awareness at the same time. How cool is that?
This is an idea with a future. I agree that teens too often get a bad rap, mostly undeserved. The future depends on these people and we need to encourage them, respect them, foster their creativity and help them channel their energy in positive ways. If a high school began something like this, it could be a pioneering move toward having students at other schools work together to make the world a better place. This is a good step off from the individual service learning that is required - it will teach teamwork toward a common goal as well.
I agree 120% Teens have amazing potention and strength of hear when it comes to putting their energy into the causes they're passionate about; and art is a great way to foster and grow this.
Great idea! Teens do care and have the desire and energy to do something positive if they are motivated. High school students are motivated by someone who appreciates them as this teacher clearly does. I'd like to see this idea go further and see the positive things that teens can do with their talent in art!
