Problem selling film online: how do you generate genuine buzz about your film or video without making it free?
Idea Description
Solution: a system where your content is given away only at first, and only to a few.
-People sign up for the free service. Each week, they are presented with the opportunity to download (for free) a film. The Key: different groups receive different films. 1000 users = 5 films x 200 random people.
-Before you can download next week's film, you have to rate and review the first one.
-Films are priced based on ratings and download momentum, and capped at $12.
-That means the most expensive films are the best, and everybody gets their shot at free content.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Honestly? I'd have to look for some more venture capital because I'd need to hire people to code the site. I'm more of a designer myself. I know the right people, but haven't got the right amount of money.
But I could probably use the publicity from a win to generate interest in the site from indie filmmakers and episodic producers that would be interested in partnering with the site at launch.
Vote for it now.

Q1: The system is currently built in a way that assumes we can trust our customers (that they won't just put the videos on bittorrent, etc). Is this naive?
Potential challenge #1 - Tough call. I think the majority of users out there are honest, but there are always a few bad apples. You could charge different prices depending on how the video would be used post-purchase. Higher price means more liberal use of the video, etc. Bottom line though, someone will always find a way to take what they want.
