Smart Coupon service (via mobile phones)
Smart Coupon service (via mobile phones)
Idea Description
Service that provides companies the ability to distribute promotional coupons to mobile phones in the form of a bi-dimensional code (looks like an image) and text. These electronic coupons can be redeemed in retail chains and in shopping centers, in order to get discounts, offers, etc. With permission of the user, the service may use user's real-time location to deliver customized promotions (Coupon for for a restaurant that the consumer is walking by). Reasons for success:
+ Higly relevant promotions, that consumers opted-in for (permission marketing).
+ Service that allows retailers to easily track effectiveness of each promotion.

Q1: Potential limitations may have to do with individual state regualtions on location information. However, this is opt-in service, which mitigates this challenge.
(a) Mobiya is already doing that as are a few other text related companies; (b) mobile delivery is key--**** or MMS; (c) you can use standard bar codes (I think EAN); (d) location requires either client or relevant way to find tower/GPS coordinates (e.g. Google client).
This is a great idea. Before you you invest alot of time, I would do a patent search. I have to believe that the big couponing companies like Advo have locked up this technology. If not, you are on to something big!
