  Good idea. I would guess that locating your center next to a successful gym (like Gold's) would net you some great results. (most people that go to the gym are conscious of their health, but also of their kids health...putting it close to an existing gym would give you good advertising, but also convenience as they can drop their kids off when they go work out).
  
  I would make it a standard LLC or Sub S Corp (depending on the number of employees and how fast you plan to expand).
  
  Get as many certifications as possible...the more you have hanging on the wall, the more confidence you build with the parents.

  Low entry barriers in this industry would enable you to open shop with minimal start-up costs. Costs would include real estate, equipments and minimal non-traditional marketing done locally.

  You can also experiment or begin with the franchisee model to test the waters and see if your comfortable doing this on your own.
  
  For location, I agree with ddupree, you can either partner with schools or locate the gyms closer to schools so kids can finish school, go …moreto the gym and then head home instead of parents having to pick up and drop off their kids from different locations. I am not quite sure if locating the fitness center to an already established one is such a good idea. It would mean inviting competition in the form of an already established player with the financial muscle to ramp up operations much quicker than a smaller player.

  This is a great idea. You might have already thought of it but I think partnering with public and private schools and especially home schoolers and children with special needs. I agree that children do not have enough physical activity.
