USB hard drive with memory card reader
USB hard drive with memory card reader
Idea Description
I would like to develop an external USB hard drive that has a built-in memory card reader and is capable of transferring files from the memory card without the need for a computer. This way, the user has virtually unlimited storage capacity at their disposal and only has to bring their digital camera and this inexpensive device with them, rather than their entire computer.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Develop the hardware/software necessary to create this standalone device, that can work as both a hard drive and memory card reader when connected to a PC, as well as be able to read and transfer the contents of the memory cards when not connected to a PC.
Vote for it now.

Q1: Will such a device be more cost-effective than simply buying extra high-capacity memory cards?

I can see that as a definate possibility indrive electronics could determine empty sectors on the drive to put the data on.
