iPhone Application to Meet Nearby Friends
Imagine... you go to a networking event (or even a bar)... there is a sign on the wall with a Code (e.g. #37751), you open the iPhone application and type in that number... and you then can see a list of all the people in the room who are at that event. Meet new people by learning about them first.
Idea Description
I have an iPhone application called Loopt, but it only shows people who are in a one mile radius. Why would I want to leave the venue I am at to try to meet someone I don't even know? Our application would only show people who are at the same event as you, and enable you to engage in conversation faster. It would also include profiles about those people.
This would bring up other opportunities as well, for example allowing people to check into events or make reservations. Also for people to see if any friends, acquaintances, or possible new friends may be in the premises.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
1. Build iPhone application.
2. Market the **** out of this application.
Vote for it now.

Q1: Would you use this iPhone application?
I like your idea; I want to improve your odds of getting funding I will vote for your idea if you will vote for mine. My idea is for a web site that raises money for inventors and entrepreneurs called New Idea website Check out my idea blob submission and visit New Idea Website and see what I can do for you. http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/4060-NEW-IDEA-WEBSITE The need for jobs is one of the biggest problems that a democratic government faces because creating jobs is an unwanted byproduct of business and industry. The reason I say it's unwanted is the more jobs a business creates the more its expenses are and the smaller its bottom-line . If business and industry have their way they would run their companies with no jobs at all no management or labor. To deal with this dilemma I pro…morepose a federal venture capital carrot fund that literally pays entrepreneurs to create jobs. The investment bank would be expected invest in seed level startup projects like yours and to lose money at a specified dollar per jobs ratio for example during hard times that figure may be as high as $20,000 per job and good times the figure may be as low as five dollars per job, by controlling this ratio the fed could roughly control unemployment. The bank will be expected to fund novel products and services and stay away from things like restaurants that will simply draw jobs from other restaurants or moving factories from one part of the country to another. If you like this idea vote for it and send the congressional letter from the website. Sincerely Frank Scruggs
This is a very interesting and innovative approach to using the IPhone capabilities and complementing many popular trends in the social networking and dating scene. I’m curious whether there are any intellectual property issues associated with this idea given that Apple has apparently already developed a similar application. I’ll assume that there isn’t an issue or at least you could discuss partnering with Apple to examine expanding the concept. You might also consider collaborating with dating sites such as match.com that could use the technology to help people with similar interests meet each other in specific locations. Imagine if through the credentials stored in the match.com website (or similar website) two people in the same building were introduced or notified that they …moreshould introduce themselves. It may help “break the ice” between two normally timid people. You could also expand this idea into any other affiliations such as schools, industries, sports fans, and general interests so that people could meet eachother when in the same building/location. I know of some bars and restaurants in major U.S. cities that have setup "stations" where individuals can communicate with each other at other stations over video and phones. It's a new way of meeting people and facilitating relationship building. Perhaps your idea could be used in a similar manner. In a way, you're developing an RFID-like capability that identifies who people are and where they are. It might be useful in an office or work area where employees are in and out of the office on a regular basis and management needs to identify who is on the premises and who isn't. Going one step further, perhaps you could develop a GUI front end that could be accessible on the web to show who all is present at a specific location. There are so many things you could do with this idea that the opportunities are endless. I see this as one of the next hit features of cell phones. Of course with any good idea are limitations that could affect the salability of the product. One major concern I have is the security implication of identifying a person's interests, credentials or personal information within closed confines. There is certainly a potential for abuse as we've seen in myspace.com where stalkers posed as a different person under a username. If, for example, someone used a similar approach to find children or take advantage of people based on disabilities etc. it could pose a serious liability issue for the company that developed the application. This shouldn't prevent you from exploring the idea, it's simply meant to get you thinking about the need and costs associated with liability insurance. I'm also unclear on whether the individual's location is identified by the Code or by the location transmitted by the phone? If it were solely based on the Code, it would be interesting to see whether people abused it by sharing the Code with others who are not actually at that location to pretend as if they were there. Maybe as a source of validation, you could develop the application to cross reference the GPS (or location identification device in the IPhone) with the Code to validate that the person is indeed at that location. Hopefully some of these ideas are helpful to you. I also hope to see this application available to the market soon as I would certainly buy it assuming it was in the same cost structure as other IPhone applications.
