  I think this idea is good but already kind of exists in the form of estate sale management. Estate sales are just like garage sales, only everything in the house is for sale.
  These people set up the whole thing, and they are also knowledgeable about how much to charge and when to put it on sale and how to advertise.
  They give it a professional feel so people will be more willing to buy more. Here is a site for a company that does estate sales:

  While i think this is a great idea, you could expand your market by simply acting as promotions company. Individuals that are organizing a garage sale could hire your company to get the word out and advertise the garage sale.

  Cool idea. I think people would use this for sure. I think this venture could work hand in hand with auctioneers. Is there anyone out there already doing this?
  One place this could come in really handy is in urban areas where people just may not have the time to plan for a sale.
  
  You may also want to look into getting with someone like Dave Ramsey who helps people tackle debt. A lot of people who are trying to get out of debt do garage sales and if you can increase their visibility, make the process faster, and increase their revenue from the event, I think you could take off with this idea.

  I would suggest plugging into an online community of self-publishers such as Wordpress (www.wordpress.com) or BlogSpot (www.blogspot.com) to locate people who are heavily interested and/or authorities on the "art" of the garage sale. If you establish a relationship with them, they may be able to recommend and promote you.

  Actually, you are onto something. Instead of this or that, maybe we should have numerous solutions. The "business model" has options in it just like a menu at a restaurant. Examples: 1: Manage a garage sale at their residence, 2: Sell their items in a "Garage Sale Store" on consignment. 3: Purchase their items in bulk at wholesale and sell them at the "Garage Sale Store". 4: If they have really good stuff, you could also run an auction. I'm sure there could be variations of any of these. The bottom line is to liquidate items that someone does not need or want to someone that could use it. In the middle of all of this is the opportunity to create jobs. Ebay and Craigslist is another avenue for liquidating stuff. Not all stuff is good for Ebay, since Ebay has so many fees and it is such a job to photograph items - See my new idea (Product Photographing Service for Ebay or Craigslist).

  This sounds alot like the ebay sellers, which is a proven model I think you're on to something because most people dread the garage sale. However, I think that this would be much more scalable if you created a system whereby to picked up the stuff and sold it at another location with other items. This way, you would totally remove the hassle from the homeowner, and you could put on sales that had a much better and thought out selection.
