Community tools and equipment
Why does every household need a lawnmower? or set of wrenches? or edger? or etc.... Several households could own a community of products, each buying a fraction of it & likewise keeping a community fund for repairs.
Idea Description
By buying "community" tools, etc. that are used on an occasional basis, individuals could save lots of money; suggested items: fertilizer spreaders, edgers, mowers, shovels, rakes, ladders, wrenches, gas for mowers, etc. This would save lots of duplicated money; keep a chart to sign up for usage; decide who houses what, who repairs what; could also be extended to trailers and larger items.

Q1: has anyone ever done this?
nteresting idea. The October 2008 IEEE Spectrum has an article on a similar idea titled "The Innovators Club". There, Jim founds "TechShop", a High-Tech workshop open to anyone who pays a modest membership fee.
