Green Laundry Cleaning Cubes
Yes, some companies have come up with great ways of going green in products and their packaging, but most still have a lot of landfill-filling plastics! I'd love to get away from that starting with laundry detergent!
Idea Description
Even though time has passed and more and more laundry detergent companies have begun to reduce the amount of plastics they are packaging the detergent in, but there is still a ton of plastics sitting on shelves about to be put into a landfill FOREVER when you're all done with your wash. I want to research a way to put laundry detergent into solid cubes that do not need to be wrapped and package them in a small cardboard sleeve that is completely recyclable. Think laundry detergent ice cubes in less than a half of a shoe box! Think of how much space a laundry detergent bottle takes up in a garbage bag, then multiply that by millions of people. Its adding up in our environment!
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
My next steps would be to research what materials that I can use to create an efficient laundry soap that will be solid and not be too harsh. It would also need to dissolve easily in order to wash the clothes. I would need to speak with someone in a chemistry field to assist me in compounds that will stick together in a cube form, as well as dissolve in the laundry water. I also need to look into small cardboard boxes that would be sturdy enough to hold the soap cubes. I would like to use environmentally friendly ink on these boxes as well.
*Edit to add* I have also thought about starting smaller by a laundry detergent refill station, similar to the water bottle refills at stores.
Vote for it now.

Q1: Once I get going on this project, which types of places should it be marketed to? What scents are the most popular for laundry detergent or what scents would you like to see it available in?

great Idea!!
Just wanted to let you know that these "tablets" already exist in Europe (maybe more countries, but I am sure in Europe). At least if i am understanding your idea correctly. They also have Liquid Tablets available. Please see this link as an example of an existing laundry detergent Tablet variation: http://www.ariel.co.uk/colour_about.html and also: http://www.epinions.com/pr-Housewares-Wisk_Laundry_Detergent_Tablets
