DIY Garage
Perfect spot for the shade tree mechanic. You rent your auto bay, and any speciality tools needed for your job. You perform the work on your car, yourself. Trained mechanics are on hand to offer advice or assistance for additional fee.
Idea Description
This would be a small operation to begin with and could blossom into a chain of stores. The "look" would be similar to a Jiffy Lube store, just two or three spots to park your car. You will rent the bay by the hour or day depending on your needs. Basic tools would be checked out and checked back in as part of the rental. Specialized tools would be additional fees and the on site mechanic would supervise use of these tools. Assistance from the mechanic would be additional fees. You bring your own parts. A waiver for damages and acceptance of limitations would have to be signed. For instance, our store would not be responsible if you purchased a part that blew up your car.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
With ten thousand dollars I would begin researching locations and possibly opening one small, two bay garage to begin.
Vote for it now.

Q1: If you were a woman and classes were offered, would you sign up?

I had this idea as well. In the Army we used to have this on one of the bases I was at. Insurance is going to be your biggest hurdle. It is going to COST A LOT. NYC motorcycle garages have similar setups, but they include storage of the bike. You might want to consider a Monthly Membership model. As a car club with membership you might have less insurance. I wish you the best of luck and open one near me I will be there all the time.
Now that you're on the front page you should post a picture to catch people's attention a bit more.
I really like this idea! It's especially good for people who live in apartment buildings or houses without garages who know how to do basic things like change the oil but don't have anywhere to do it. And some classes would be great. You know how Home Depot has all sorts of DIY classes for home improvement? Do the same thing for automotive maintenance!
