Literacy and Art Within DisABILITY Awareness Program
I teach groups of children (30 - 300) to write and illustrate a complete book about animals with my program, The WrIte Story.
Using penguins (in a Power Point) I teach them to embrace diversity.
For adults, my 7 year journey is covered here: Autism Awareness: From Suspicion to Success.
Idea Description
My son is writing his 5th real book (at 9) using a program I developed to build a bridge from "my" world as a writer to "his" world as a child with a mild form of Autism who can “feel” colors and “see” words as pictures. He gave up his imaginary language and developed reciprocal speech after he wrote his 1st book.
Soon I began Reaching, Teaching and Inspiring other children using the program I developed to teach him. I have taught nearly 4,000 children to write a complete book since 2003. All levels of abilities work together as a team and learn to embrace diversity! An outline of my program can be seen here under photos:

What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
I would put the funds into a foundation, to be applied for by schools and groups teaching children. The funds would pay for the books and printing of my materials to teach physically, mentally and financially challenged children to write more books they get to keep about animals at the ZOO.
I would use a portion of the funds to purchase ZOO tickets to bring more groups of children to the ZOO, where we will write about and draw the animals.
Last month I partnered with the Denver ZOO - to bring The ZOO to the children I teach in the Denver area. There is no charge to the schools for my visits and I pay the ZOO visit fee. With this I could take even more groups of children to the ZOO!
Vote for it now.

Q1: How can I connect with a large entity to make my game available to children nation-wide (hopefully world wide)?
I have contacted several companies who will create a prototype (for about $100 K)... not a financial option for me.
One company told me that my game "could become bigger than Monopoly" and sent me a contract. The fine print revealed that they would "own" my game. Not a moral option for me.
My game is educationally entertaining, fun for the entire family and can be played with cards, as a board game, as a travel game, a DVD, CD-Rom and with nothing at all (verbal exchange only) ... and everyone WINS!
I think it's awesome what you are doing with these children and I applaud your efforts and hope you get the funds you need to continue your program. Warm Blessings, MaryKBroshear
I found your website. Love the books! :)
Hello Rhonda: my project also teaches children about illustration through the creation of a book. The illustrator proceeds from the sale of the book are then donated to local non-profits. I like your idea. Do you have a website? If you have a moment please check out my idea as well. I appreciate your vote or comments. Thanks! And best of luck to you, Jessica :) http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/3407-Kiba-Kiba-Books-Illustrated-b
