  I'm guessing you'll have the site segmented into sections that appeal to parents as well as sections that appeal to children. Things like online games that families could enjoy together would be useful.
  
  You might also consider trying to get a "seal of approval" from some well-recognized, respected family organizations. That would help to build credibility and trust.
  
  Regarding advertising, have site/section sponsors would be useful and even tacit product placement. I could easily see a site like this serving as a source for research for companies offering family-friendly products/services too.

  Maybe the family could input some of their interests and you could filter some of the activities in whatever location they chose.
  
  I would also like to see how much money I was saving by booking this trip family style.

  I would like to use something like this for my family. However, I would hope that you understand that parents might be concerned about meeting other families on the internet due to child predators. If there was something on the website that assured parents of the security, it would have more use. This website would also be great for families that are new to an area.

  On my initial visit to the site, if I had a good experience and found what I wanted to find, I would definitely continue to come back and use it.
  
  I can't stress enough the importance of making your product (the site) as best it can possibly be. That way instead of spending lots of money on marketing, if your site provides real value (which it has the potential to), you'll get lots of return visits and word of mouth advertising.

  Because you plan on accepting donations, I assume you will be filing for status as a non-profit. If that wasn't your plan or desire, I would consider altering your revenue channels because donations cannot be accepted by for-profit businesses.
