Website with Information and Activities for Safe Family Fun
I would like to build a web site that would allow parents and their children to plan activities and mini-vacations. The site would contain areas for what to do, where to go on any budget, recipes for healthy eating and a simple social networking piece so families can meet other families in the area.
Idea Description
Safe Family Fun is being developed to provide families a place to research::
* Information about family activities
* Travel information - where to go on quick vacations on any budget
* Healthy Eating including healthy meals and snacks
* Tips to help with all stages of childhood
* Community area to help families meet other families
The web site is already under construction and moving along rapidly. The projected launch date for this site is December 1st, 2008 and will originally focus on Christmas ideas. Each month, the site will focus on projects, activities and travel ideas for the upcoming holidays or the current season in general.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
If we were to win the $10K, it would be used to obtain information for the site and to market it to families. Though the funds aren't fully budgeted, we would like to include online as well as television advertising to help educate the public on the benefits of this site. Site development is well under way with design and content starting to go in. The site would be supported by targeted advertising in as discrete a manner as possible as well as private and corporate donations.
Vote for it now.

Q1: Do you have any suggestions for us to make this web site more appealing to families? We already plan to include activities, projects and travel tips - is there anything else that would help you plan your next family outing?
I'm guessing you'll have the site segmented into sections that appeal to parents as well as sections that appeal to children. Things like online games that families could enjoy together would be useful.
You might also consider trying to get a "seal of approval" from some well-recognized, respected family organizations. That would help to build credibility and trust.
Regarding advertising, have site/section sponsors would be useful and even tacit product placement. I could easily see a site like this serving as a source for research for companies offering family-friendly products/services too.
