Waste Facts on consumer goods
I propose to lobby the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to create an act require all waste information on consumer goods. Similar to the "Nutritional Facts" labels on all foods, these labels would help consumers make eco-friendly purchases.
Idea Description
Thanks to the 1990 Nutritional Labeling and Education Act (NLEA) nearly all foods in America are required to show nutritional information on all food products. I propose to lobby for a similar act to be passed that would require all consumer goods to list all waste information. This would include the percent of the product and packaging that is recycled, the amount of physical waste created by the products creation, and the amount of pollution generated by the creation of the product. This would allow consumers to make informed ecological decisions when purchasing goods and motivate manufactures to find more eco-friendly methods of manufacturing, packaging, and shipping.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
To be completely honest I'm hoping some of the people here can help me with the best approach for the next step. There are various ways to proceed from hiring a lawyer to lobby for the act, to creating a website to raise awareness and petition local and state governments.
Vote for it now.

Q1: What is the best method to raise awareness and get the concept out to the general public?
Web marketing on high traffic sites such as myspace and facebook.
