  There are several different methods, but if you really want to get people's attention you will need to use some guerilla marketing tactics. Guerilla tactics include any kind of non traditional marketing methods providing they are non threatening and harmful.
  An example of this could be leaving some little piece of trash on the outside of mailboxes with a note saying," a little damage goes a long way for the environment"
  Tactics like this that are physical and raw may get people's attention a little more easily.
  Street displays would be another method.

  In realty I would spend a lot of it on promotional materials and research.
  The promotional material you would need could be anything from handouts, flyers, cards, stickers, or anything to spread awareness.
  Now you're probably wondering awareness for what, Simple.
  Start building a petition to send to your state rep. or sen. about what you want to see accomplished.
  The second part of this is research. Finding out about different products and which ones really cause a lot of harm to the environment. This could be done by simply spending a few days on the net. Discovering good solid evidence will be what you need in order to advance your cause before the senate

  Really though the best thing you can hope to do is start building support and making change in the state. That's where a lot of the big change will happen. If you could convince local business who operate state wide to start putting some kind of warning on their packaging, people might start paying attention.
  I would almost say it would be better to have the support of these local firms before approaching your state senate about anything. B/c if you have that, you will create a win win situation.
  Beyond this, if you state really starts to deplete their pollution count other states may start to pay attention. Then you might could look at change on a national level, which would be huge.
