The Simple Service
Bringing the focus of computer repair services into the 21st century and, more importantly, back to the consumer - rather than the computer.
TSS adds 2 key lacking necessities to the industry:
1) Individualized, personal experience
2) Free education w/ incentives & "Bit Literacy" programs.
Idea Description
TSS was launched in September, 2008 and can currently be accessed at http://www.thesimpleservice.com.
The 5 core tenets of TSS:
1) Simple fee: $45/hr. Nothing lower, nothing better.
2) A philosophy: that you deserve the best right away, on the first try.
3) Communication is key: I make sure you understand all the basics, and set you up with quality preventive care so I don't have to come back.
4) Education for life: you deserve to know what you can do to prevent further issues, and I won't leave until I know you're comfortable with your computer's future.
5) One mission: to make sure you never need computer repair again.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
- Perform more in-depth market research on my primary addressable market: baby boomers, focusing not on the most common problems, but the human cause of those problems and the best solution.
- Develop more salient Edvent (free basic computer education) programs. Currently, I can only afford to offer topics in which I am already educated.
- Offer the TSS Seminars more than just monthly. Ideally, I would be able to offer Seminars 1x/week to be able to cover 4 separate major locations throughout the month.
- Invest in technology to broadcast Seminars over the web for those who can't attend physically.
- Marketing, which is currently only word of mouth.
- Look into expansion beyond MN

Q1: Any other suggestions, questions, tips, advice, resources, related businesses? Criticism is highly welcomed and appreciated!
You are onto something that I have thought of before. I did personal and business support with my business for a while and I grew to hate it. There are reasons why it costs so much.
Customers want personal attention. They want to call YOU when they have a problem because they trust you. You could read 4 hour work week books all you want, but you CANNOT remove yourself from this industry to be successful, unless you put customers in touch with someone they feel absolutely comfortable with and trust.
They do not want to have John show up one day, then Joe the next.
