Idea Description

The digital divide grows daily. My program helps address this by packaging high tech skills in Hollywood flash. I’m a 15+ year veteran of Special FX and I’ve designed tutorials that peak kids’ interest by having them recreate the same superheros and fireballs they see in popular movies. In the process, they’ll be called upon to use their creativity, academic knowledge (particularly math) and technical skills. They’ll have a place to post and show off their work. There’ll be contests where kids can win cash, prizes, or professional experience/credit. But their biggest prize will realized in the future when they’re prepared to compete and win exciting and high paying careers.

What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?

1. Complete the website's design and programming.
2. Purchase enough server space and throughput to enable large amounts of traffic through the site.
3. Work with local LA schools to produce and develop supplemental curriculum and assessments.
4. Provide professional development to involved teachers.
5. Set aside money to sponsor some initial design contests
