S.C.R.A.P. Store (Scrounge Center for Reuseable Art Parts)
Open and maintain a non-profit store that sells donated items that would normally end up in our landfills, for crafts, arts, Scouts and home use. Items are sold by the bag to shoppers for low prices, and earnings would be directed to cancer survivors/patients. Example: http://www.scrapbox.com/
Idea Description
S.C.R.A.P. stands for Scrounge Center for Reusable Art Parts. While living in Marhsall, MI recently, the store there unfortunately closed after I discovered it. Local residents, as well as large companies can donate their unwanted items, which are then resold by the bag to shoppers. Scouts, church groups, preschools and other groups would be able to find inexpensive supplies for their meetings and projects. Examples of items are scraps of material, old jeans, yarn scraps, wine corks, milk cap lids, packing materials, old greeting cards, flower vases, wall paper books, unwanted craft supplies, any paper materials, foam, flooring, wood scraps, broken jewelry, and a lot more.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
First, I would register the name of the store with the Secretary of State, fill out proper forms for starting a non-profit, hire a qualified accountant to keep track of paperwork, hire volunteers or one paid worker other than myself. I plan to manage it and seek donations from cities surrounding. I have a location in mind (a run down and closed gas station, but in a great location in Bowling Green, Ohio), however it's getting the money to start it up. It would help so many other in so many ways, and keep the landfills empty. I am currently a stay-at-home mom, and write how-to articles for www.ehow.com (many are how to make recycled crafts). I would make recycled crafts and teach classes
Vote for it now.

Q1: How would I maintain the store until business picks up? I would search and apply for government grant funds if needed, and direct the money made to a charity, outside the cost of expenses and paychecks to hired workers. One idea is to start a charity (could be attached to the same building or not) that donates items to breast cancer survivors who cannot afford them, such as breast forms, mastectomy bathing suits and forms, bras and much much more that survivors cannot afford and insurance will not cover. Breast Cancer Survivors have already suffered enough and should not have to suffer emotionally and physically by having to pay outrageous prices to maintain a normal lifestyle.

I like your idea; I want to improve your odds of getting funding I will vote for your idea if you will vote for mine. My idea is for a web site that raises money for inventors and entrepreneurs called New Idea website Check out my idea blob submission and visit New Idea Website and see what I can do for you. http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/4060-NEW-IDEA-WEBSITE The need for jobs is one of the biggest problems that a democratic government faces because creating jobs is an unwanted byproduct of business and industry. The reason I say its unwanted is the more jobs a business creates the more its expenses are and the smaller it’s bottom-line. If business and industry have their way they would run their companies with no jobs at all no management or labor. To deal with this dilemma I pr…moreopose a federal venture capital carrot fund that literally pays entrepreneurs to create jobs. The investment bank would be expected invest in seed level startup projects like yours and to lose money at a specified dollar per jobs ratio for example during hard times that figure may be as high as $20,000 per job and good times the figure may be as low as five dollars per job, by controlling this ratio the fed could roughly control unemployment. The bank will be expected to fund novel products and services and stay away from things like restaurants that will simply draw jobs from other restaurants or moving factories from one part of the country to another. If you like this idea vote for it and send the congressional letter from the website. Sincerely Frank Scruggs
Great idea! I created my first KIBA KIBA BOOK using only recycled fabric scraps and recycled cardboard boxes from the local co-op and turned it into something beautiful: You can see it here: http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/3407-Kiba-Kiba-Books-Illustrated-b It's the one titled BLUE BLEW on the homepage: www.kibakiba.org Good luck with your project. I LOVE this idea as I love making art out of "scraps"
I think this is a great idea. "One man's trash is another man's gold." I think a lot of elementary and junior highschools would be interested in this as well. You would have to get the word out there about this outlet so that people would know to take their stuff there or have someone come and pick it up.
I like the idea. Logistically, these SCRAP outlets have to be in every major city. I have metal that makes me sick to throw it out. But if someone came over to pick it up, I would gladly give it to them.
