Audio Theater for the Troops
I'm a voice over actor, I also have a friend serving overseas. How could I do something for him to say "thank you"? Audio Theater for the Troops is the result. Using donated scripts and volunteer celebrity actors, this is the next generation of radio shows, rather these will be "movies for the ears"
Q1: But what about when the troops come home from Iraq?
At that time, there will still be men and women serving in the United States Armed Forces and they will still want and need to be entertained in their off hours. Audio Theater for the Troops is designed to be an ongoing provider of entertainment to the U.S. military.
Also, please note that this project is non-partisan and non-political in nature.
Idea Description
My cousin served on an aircraft carrier and I had a good friend serve on a nuclear submarine. I understand their need for off hours entertainment of varying types.
I admire the work the U.S.O. does but I wondered what about those that cannot make it to the show? What happens when the tour is over? These hard working men and women deserve top quality entertainment that was made JUST for them and is available to them 24/7/365.
Over the last two years I have forged agreements and alliances with the actors unions SAG and AFTRA as well as the WGA. I have studios around L.A. willing to donate time. Post production is too lengthy to be donated. Finding material and scheduling require staff.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
I have two pilots for review by the Pentagon in production now.
The money will be used to fund the post production on the two pilots as well as the supporting informational video we shot. It will also allow me to finish the application process toward becoming a legal non-profit.
After receiving approval, a library of material will need to be produced ASAP.
Finding material is not as easy as I thought before undertaking this. Arranging times for busy working actors can also be a full time job in and of itself. Hiring a part time staff is the best way to build a library as quickly as possible.

Helping our troops should be a top priority. Your idea is kind and thoughtful and I look forward to its success. They give us freedom, we should be able to give them something interesting to do on their off hours.

As an independent producer of full cast audio drama on the web (pendantaudio.com, darkerprojects.com and now contracted for post-production on colonialradio.com) I would LOVE to help out on this project in any way that I can. I think audio drama is a great way to entertain the troops, and less of an imact on hard drive space than most films or television, for digital distribution.
