Millions of dollars go unclaimed for scholarships because students lack the resources, confidence and awareness of available scholarships. My idea is to set up an after-school program that is solely focused on matching scholarships and students, helping with essays and projects that get scholarships

Idea Description

Many students just don't know about available scholarships or don't have the self confidence to go after them. The program would help students identify scholarships that they have a good chance to get, and would help them with essays and projects that will earn them the award. While there are online programs that help identify scholarships, this program is for students that don't have the access or the support to help go after these scholarships. An after school program that helps push students to get these scholarships would go along way to boost self-confidence and get students into a college they may not of have been able to get into. This program once tested can easily go national.

What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?

10K would allow me to set-up a the Non-profit and partner with a high school in the Philadelphia area and do 1 year of after school programming. During this pilot year I would be able to prove the concept by the amount of scholarship money that the program brings in for students. These positive numbers would allow me to go after larger grant making institutions and increase the size and ability of the program. The program would also invite specialists in writing scholarships/grants, what to expect in college, managing finances, and other tools the students will need in their college years.
