Nutmeg Sailing Society,LLC - Where Kids Sail Free!
Nutmeg Sailing Society,LLC is a non-profit sailing and maritime education organization based on the principles of teamwork, confidence building and leadership skills. Dedicated to providing no-cost sailing programs to as many youth, youth groups,OEF/OIF veterans and the disabled as possible.
Idea Description
Our 4 programs target the following:
1) Sponsoring a new Sea Scout "Ship" for high school age kids that are interested in sailing and general seamanship skills.
2) We offer Training, equipment and funds to a Naval Sea Cadet Corp Division. These kids are highly motivated and enjoy the structure and discipline.
3) Offering no-cost "Kids Can Sail" one day introductory courses to existing Youth Groups such as the Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Many of these kids can not join the Scouts or Cadets due to social/economic reasons.
4) "VetSail" is also a no-cost introductory program for OEF/OIF Veterans and their family. Being a Navy vet myself - it's just my little way of saying "Thanks".
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Winning would afford us 2 years worth of docking, winterizing and insurance so we can get off to a running start next season. It would give us the time needed to build our donations and sponsors that will carry us through.
It would also help with the printing of course booklets.
Since Nutmeg is only a few months old, we have had to refuse 3 sailboats so far for lack of funds.
Future plans include obtaining shop space where the Sea Scouts will learn to build wooden boats from the keel up, and know the excitment of sailing a ship they created.
Extended plans, no-cost youth summer sailing camp for those economically challenged and a Disabled sailing program for adults and children.
Vote for it now.

Q1: I was thinking about looking for a female who can skipper the larger sailboats so that we may offer an "all girls" sailing course. I would like some feed-back on this. Thanks

Great idea, I wish you much luck!
