Discover and manage group-buying for discounts. Ad-Hoc team-up and discount shopping social network.
Idea Description
Combination forum and social network for people looking to buy same items in a local area (ex. 42" TV in Miami). Group-leader manages communication between members and stores to work out discounts that would otherwise not be available to individuals.
Already a popular method in china (tuangou).
Benefit to individuals: Discounts from a local retailer.
Benefit to businesses: Guaranteed sales for large quantities at once.
Group buys already exist, right?
Yes, but only in obscure forums (motorcycle parts or after-market items).
Who talks to the retailers?
Initially, the users. Eventually, the website will setup the meetings/discounts.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Already created a mock-up (www.ekanek.com/view.php?g=31 , login as guest/guest) showing how it could work.
The $10k will help in two areas:
1) web design (programming and graphics)
2) Marketing (Google ad-words, Facebook flyers)
Also, this will give us credibility to directly talk to retailers to setup professional "mini-woots" (see how www.woot.com works) and make the professional services a revenue source.
Vote for it now.

Q1: Making the website even simpler. Getting advice from experienced web-community builders
Hello Vinit,
I read your idea and think it's good.
I'm a small retailer offering apparel on ebay.
Like you, I'm developing more outlets but lack time & experience and money to pay those with it.
I would be willing to do it for marketing.
If the group I was involved in was looking for 6" widgets, or jackets for that matter, I would help find a manufacturer and take orders. For one item at my cost and just my time, I'd be able to offer a 'sale' to potential future customers.
