The school issues all students a smart card that their parents can fill with money online or over the phone. For low-income students the cards can be filled by state programs. Every purchase the students make from the lunch lady or a vending machine is saved into a profile that parents and student can access. The child will be rewarded for healthy eating with points and coupons redeemable at participating retailers. The online program will have an avatar that reacts to the food the child purchases, like an online pet, to help teach nutrition. The purchasing patterns could also earn the entire school points and rewards as the healthiest student body. Many companies would love to participate.
