Conserve the Music for our Kids at Marshall High
We are Marshall High School in Los Feliz, CA, right next to the Greek Theater and yet, there isn't enough money to cover expenses for our growing Music Conservatory Academy program kids from low-income homes.
Not enough money for uniforms, educational field trips, performances, or transportation.
Idea Description
Thanks to restrictions on funds and the budget cuts in the L.A.U.S.D. we cannot buy the necessary materials and services it takes to run a fully functional music program.
Please help us and join us in conserving the music and the sanity of our young teenagers who are easily jaded by our society. Many of these teens in my program need an outlet to vent their anger and frustrations in a constructive way. There are also those that are intelligent and musically talented but cannot afford to buy a uniform to perform in festivals or places such as the Walt Disney Hall, which we have been invited to perform at the 20th Choir Festival sponsored by the LA Master Chorale this coming April 2009.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
I will put it towards revamping a very neglected music program integrating music theory, history, performance, social, leadership, independent learning and team building skills. Students will be able to play the guitar, keyboard (piano), and sing to the best of their abilities and talents because they will have the necessary money and means to achieve excellence in performing music. They will see the benefits of the outcome of their hard work and will be able to apply it to their everyday lives because once they have achieved a goal through hard work, commitment and dedication, they will be able to apply it to other parts of their lives and will build the necessary self-esteem for success.
Vote for it now.

Q1: Can you please help us allow these children who are our future work force and leaders and outlet to express themselves while making music without the restrictions of not enough money? Thank you for any support.
This has been a very common budget to be cut in public schools throughout the country. It is very sad to see this happen, especially because I played trumpet from 6th grade all the way through my senior year of high school and learned a lot from it. I wasn't one of the troubled youth, but I knew some kids that stayed out of some trouble because they were in band or marching band during the summers. But besides keeping kids busy and off the streets, taking away our music programs is preventing future generations from realizing their talents in music. We are preventing future generations of great musicians that would go down in history, but won't because they never picked up that trumpet in band to realize how great music actually is.
Anyway, there are a few different organizations that are trying to do their best to help save these withering programs from dying. Here are a few of these programs that you might want to look into for help:
