Start a consulting firm to help communities create a sense of place through professional planning services that take into account all factors that effect a business district: regulations, buildings, infrastructure, and limitations, as well as the needs of individual businesses and community members.

Idea Description
I am concerned about the health and vitality of our communities, especially small ones, and I want to help them create a sense of place by helping them to see their assets and teaching them to build upon them. I believe that the small business owner is key to the successful revitilization of any community, and add value in unique ways with their involvement in our community life. I want to create a planning consulting business that incorporates all elements that affect the small business owner and community downtowns to help them create a sense of place that give them identity, and enhances their value in the community. Similar to a "Main Street" approach, but with more factors considered.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
I would use the money to provide my services at little or no cost to a deserving but small community in my area. I have a background in community planning and I am an expert in historic preservation, and have been involved in Main Street activities before.
