Our community lack in education when dealing with adults and children who are developmentally disabled. "PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES LEADING ORDINARY LIVES; THAT HAVE MEANING TO THEM; WITH NO LIMITS ON WHAT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE.

Idea Description
I worked with developmentally disabled adults and children for 12 years. It is a passion and not a job where one can pick up a pay cheque. It is a shame how the public looks at these individuals with no respect. I was at the park last weekend with 2 of my clients, young adults from ages 17 through 20 who were laughing and making fun of these innocent individuals. I stood up and taught them a lesson that they will never forget. This made them realize that this could have happened to them while their mothers were pregnant. I own Adult Residential Facility and operate this business with 8 wonderful staff who actually has the passion, instills respect and dignity.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
My purpose is to serve developmentally disabled adults/children delivering high quality services, developing an empowering environment, supporting independent lifestyles within our community.
Empowerment: to provide the means and opportunities in which a person can enhance their lives.
