elderly homeowners need help/others need affordable housing
Many elderly homeowners have difficulty living alone, but w/poor economy can't sell to move into assisted living or can't afford hired help-- match up these seniors with displaced persons (e.g. through natural disaster, divorce, new grads that can't find a job & don't want to live w parents, etc)
Idea Description
Both persons involved, the "home sharer" and the "sharee" would undergo a thorough background check, have to provide personal references, drug and alcohol screening, and be willing to sign a formal written agreement that spells out concisely the 'house rules', grounds for immediate eviction, what services the sharee will be expected to provide (e.g. lawn/snow removal, take out trash, cooking, emergency assistance...) and what the home sharer will provide as compensation e.g. full or partial room/board, utilities, use of vehicle, etc.. Profiles and video interviews of each would be held in a database similiar to a dating service. This service would be also good for disabled homeowners.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Hire a risk management specialist/attorney to further evaluate the concept and cover all the bases regarding liability to protect the senior from victimization, hire computer person to set up the database

Q1: How do we help our elderly/disabled neighbors who can't sell their homes for a price that would enable them to move into assisted living, and can't afford to hire full-time help?

This seems like a good service that is mutually beneficial. I agree that a possible concern is senior victimization so it's really smart that you plan to use your money to further research that aspect. Maybe you could convince some college/law students to help you? Good luck!!
