PaperWorks
Creating income, opportunities, art, options and possibilities from weeds and waste.
This project would instruct low-income young adults in papermaking and produce blank books, journals, cards, and lamps using local agricultural waste, weeds and recycled paper.
Idea Description
This project would instruct low-income young adults in papermaking and produce blank books, journals, cards, and lamps using local agricultural waste, weeds and recycled paper.
This urban and rural area is rich in plants that can yield paper, small farms, as well as several corporations and businesses with paper waste. We already own two "Hollander " type machines for processing pulp as well as many moulds and deckles, key tools used in western sheet forming. A core group will be recruited and instructed in papermaking and taught to create the objects for sale to continue to the project. Classes in various aspects of papermaking will offered and will also be a source for revenues.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Next steps would be:
secure 501c3 status
create a website
to recruit participants, provide information on the project, and sell the products created
find and lease a space for production

Q1: How can we best connect with our natural allies: the school district, Pathways, BOCES, economic opportunity program--- by including them on
our board or after our development?
Especially for your second question it might be helpful to have a little more background about where you are located.
