Cross-Country Eco-Video Travel Project
We're planning a cross-country eco-documentary for kids that focuses on renewable energy and sustainable design/living. These are the potential solutions to the problems our kids will inherit - national security, the environment, and the economy.
Idea Description
In May/June 2009, we will be traveling the U.S. in our veg-oil powered VW Beetle and profiling renewable energy sites and people/technologies that have made impacts in sustainable design and living. We will compile our video profiles online and onto DVD to distribute to schools, so that kids can be empowered to create a renewable and sustainable future. Our award-winning eco-videos have been seen by over 200,000 people, and the time has come for people to see what solutions exist to solve the problems of energy security, the climate crisis, and our economy. Our website for the project is www.OurRenewableNation.org, which has a map and destination list and all the info about our project.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Winning $10K will allow us to distribute our DVD to schools on a massive scale through the National Science Teachers Association. It is critical for kids to know what tools and resources they have available to use in creating a renewable and sustainable future, free of politics and fear. Teachers will be able to use our DVD as an educational tool in classrooms, where they will be able to choose from our many video profiles what aspects they want to focus on. The per-unit price of producing DVDs in bulk is small, and $10K would buy A LOT of copies for schools. Our eco-video project is an educational non-profit and our mission is to empower kids to create a renewable and sustainable future
Vote for it now.

Q1: What ido you hope to accomplish with your cross-country eco-documentary? 1. We will show that the U.S. has such an abundance of natural resources, we could easily produce 100% renewable elecricity to power our homes, vehicles, and heating/cooling. 2. Sustainable design makes it possible to recycle and reuse 100% of our waste, making a sustainable economy and lifestyle possible. 3. Kids have the power to make their voices heard about the issues that will be affecting their generation. 9-year-old Carrick used an old camcorder to make award-winning videos that have been seen by over 200,000 people, and our cross-country project is the next step in spreading the message of sustainability.
This is what every child needs to see in schools, inspired by your own children. What breaks my heart the most is to see kids growing up wasting precious materials and disregarding the environmental impacts of their actions. Very rarely have I seen students actively value the world they live in by understanding the effects of everyday habits such as driving a car, throwing away oil-based plastics, wasting food, and other deleterious acts. The world is not Man's trash bin.
In addition to video, it would be great to see an actively updated text-based guide as to what can be done to engage in an ecologically friendly lifestyle for your website.
It's absolutely wonderful to see you and your team have the courage to step up and educate our future at the heart of the matter. I personally support your efforts; keep up the good work.
Best of luck,
Bryan
