A Designated Driving Service for College Students
Chip's Whip is a designating driving service whose ultimate goal is to eliminate drinking and driving on college campuses. Although, there are regularly available transportation services provided, most are unable to take students to their exact destination during weekends and other social outings.
Idea Description
Chip's Whip was co-founded by Wil Mines and Matt Definis. After their first couple of years in college, serving as designated drivers to their friends, Matt and Wil seized the opportunity to launch this successful business venture. After teaming up with each other, they began their operation with just one van. Word quickly spread around campus, and the business grew to include two vans and a staff of seven employees. The ultimate goal of Chip's Whip is to eliminate drinking and driving on college campuses. Our website, www.chipswhip.com, is still under construction. However, we can be contacted by e-mailing chipswhip@chipswhip.com.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
If Chip's Whip became the recipient of $10,000, the company would purchase another van. However, the majority of the company's costs comes from insurance so most of the $10,000 awarded would go towards proper coverage. In order to increase awareness of the service throughout the campus, an advertising technique worth pursuing is to create marketable t-shirts to be worn by employees and customers. The owners of Chip's Whip have relied heavily on their own income to finance the company, so if awarded the $10,000, they would also use a portion to expand our services to other college campuses. With the burden of paying tuition and balancing Chip's Whip finances, this award would be vastly useful

This sounds like an excellent service. I understand about commercial insurance costs. I wish you guys the best of luck with your business.
Remember, it's not just a sober ride...it's an experience! What a great idea. I hope that it reaches college campuses across the country. Not just UMass!
There's a program like this at Western Michigan University, already, however it is all trained student volunteers - not a business. It's about the community working together to keep fellow students safe.
You should contact insurance companies to see if they would invest in your company. Ultimateley, it should help there cost in the end.
Sounds like a great idea... But what are you charging the students for this service? I wish you the best of luck with your business
I had a friend who's frat brother killed a police officer while drunk driving. I think this idea is great not only for the safety of college students, but for everyone else. I was wondering if you tried getting any Universities to cooperate with you. Great idea though!
