At Your Cervix: make pelvic exams respectful and pain-free
At Your Cervix is a documentary film aimed at improving pelvic exams for all patients, and ending unethical, egregious practices. Inside U.S. medical schools specially trained women teach pelvic exams using their own bodies, but sometimes students learn on anesthetized women without their consent.
Idea Description
The documentary At Your Cervix explores the connection between the way medical and nursing students are taught pelvic exams and the reality that most women experience them as painful and disempowering. The film breaks the silence around unethical methods used by medical and nursing schools to teach students how to perform pelvic exams; the most egregious being on unconsenting, anesthetized women. The film highlights the Gynecological Teaching Associates, women who teach exams using their own bodies.
Help us start a movement to end the exploitation of vulnerable patients, to demand transparency in medical education and to improve painful exams. See our trailer: www.atyourcervixmovie.com.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
We will use $10,000 to pay for editing costs, color correction, a sound mix, our composer and other post-production costs. This film has been an absolute labor of love and a grassroots effort to change a system that puts women's bodies at risk, humiliates and disregards patients, and teaches students that it's not important to get informed consent. We need funds to finish this film, get it out into the world and create change. Post production is costly and the only thing holding us up is lack of finishing funds. Please support this very important project! Vote At Your Cervix and contribute to conversations about how pelvic exams can be more respectful and comfortable.

Q1: Share your GYN stories: How was your last pelvic exam? If you have ever had a good pelvic exam, what made it good? What did you like about the provider? What would make pelvic exams better for you? Have you had negative experiences with exams? What made them negative? Also, if you know you were examined without your consent while under anesthesia, please contact us. We want to hear from you. Write us at mystory@atyourcervixmovie.com

Post a commentI like your idea; I want to improve your odds of getting funding I will vote for your idea if you will vote for mine. My idea is for a web site that raises money for inventors and entrepreneurs called New Idea website Check out my idea blob submission and visit New Idea Website and see what I can do for you. http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/4060-NEW-IDEA-WEBSITE The need for jobs is one of the biggest problems that a democratic government faces because creating jobs is an unwanted byproduct of business and industry. The reason I say its unwanted is the more jobs a business creates the more its expenses are and the smaller it’s bottom-line. If business and industry have their way they would run their companies with no jobs at all no management or labor. To deal with this dilemma I pr…moreopose a federal venture capital carrot fund that literally pays entrepreneurs to create jobs. The investment bank would be expected invest in seed level startup projects like yours and to lose money at a specified dollar per jobs ratio for example during hard times that figure may be as high as $20,000 per job and good times the figure may be as low as five dollars per job, by controlling this ratio the fed could roughly control unemployment. The bank will be expected to fund novel products and services and stay away from things like restaurants that will simply draw jobs from other restaurants or moving factories from one part of the country to another. If you like this idea vote for it and send the congressional letter from the website. Sincerely Frank Scruggs

Amy Jo--another vote from DOE--best of luck to your project!
I'm 62 years old and have suffered pelvic exams for 50 years. Anything that can aid doctors in knowing how the patient feels - embarrassed, humiliated, pained - can only help the patient. Kudos to all of you. I support your video 110%!
I think I speak for many women of our generation and generations to come, when I say "thank you" for making waves to create positive change. - Anya

Sending huge appreciation for the tremendous energy you have already put in to making this project happen. Thank you for sharing with the world the work we do to bring the sensitivity and care into the clinic during intimate exams. Kat
Congratulations to those working on this project for their dedication and perseverance. The body is the home of the soul and our heart can turn it into a vehicle for warmth and joy. Through this film and the teaching assistants already sharing their knowledge this warmth fills our doctors offices as well. I support this project and I invite you to support it as well in such a way as expresses your deepest joy.
This WILL happen! ::clicking heels three times:: - Deb
