Speed Governor for Young Drivers or repeat speeders
Teen drivers account for most of the "avoidable" accidents in North America. Speed kills. A speed governor would limit the speed of a vehicle to a specified speed. ie. 55km/hr. Available in commercial vehicles, but could be mandated on all automobiles.
Q1: Is this a viable idea?
Idea Description
A speed governor in a vehicle is not a new idea, but I think that the application is. Unnecessary speeding is predominate in teens. A new addition to the graduated licence program may help reduce the "accidents" that commonly occur by young adults. The system would be a simple electronic speed governor that recognizes the key that is inserted into the ignition. Separate programmable keys for different members of the household. Too many drivers are killed by reckless speed demons. This type of regulator can help save lives. Apply it to repeat speed offenders. Use it as a tool. Driving is a privilege, not a right. And no one has the right to take lives.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Approach my municipality, my government to look at mandating this in all manufactured automobiles. Speak directly to the automobile manufactures for their support. Advise them that there is an alternative, and that countless lives could be saved as a result of their initiative. Approach it as an optional addon for parents that want control over how "responsibly" their vehicle is driven.
