Bicycle/Moped Mapquest
I would like to start riding a moped or bicycle to work. It's also better for the environment and my physique. The issue in working in the city is that some roads are more dangerous than others. We need a bike or moped friendly "Mapquest".
Q1: Would you think BikeQuest would be a good name?
Idea Description
Developing a street map site that gives the best route for riding a bicycle or moped would mean only a simple overlay on the existing websites that map out directions. Some areas don't have sidewalks and this is the type of information a bicyclist needs to know. Some areas have a lot of debrie, construction zones, dangerous area, and such that you will want to avoid. With the progressive mindset these days, if we can make it easier to be environmentally friendly and return to a simpler day, a website like this would be a great encouragement.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Hire a programmer who has experience with mapquest. We would encourage reader participation for locales and I would personally map out most streets in my area. I would also request participation from city officials who already know most of this information.

Once you are ready with your website your local bike shop is dying for something like this. I used to work in a bike shop and every day we would get asked the "Which is the safest route to..." question. I believe you would only need a small ad is a few biking magazines and you website would take off. I'd pay a small fee for the service.
I wish I knew of a site like this. There are so many times when I want to ride my bike somewhere and wish I new the fastest and safest way to get there. I hope you are able to promote this site and get the word out there.

I think bikely.com should be redone to be set up like a world map. Currently it's just bits and pieces of trail rides. I would like to set mine up as a US map where you can zone in on an area and users can update the map.
