Open Source Policymaking

Government can't do it alone. Companies are struggling. Non-profit organizations (and other groups who think and work on serious issues) need to step up. Its time we throw the doors of policymaking and solution finding to the public, and have it led by the non-profits, foundations, and others.

Idea Description

I am not the first one to think of an idea like this, and there are experiments out there. I'm not even submitting an idea in hopes of winning the money -- rather, I would like to see the idea take hold and our society be the better for it. What am I talking about - open source policymaking. Solution seeking by crowdsource.

It is pretty clear that government can't do it alone. Companies are struggling. Non-profit organizations (and other groups who think and work on serious issues) need to step up. Its time we throw the doors of policymaking and solution finding to the public, and have it led by the non-profits, foundations, and others of the world.

What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?

Launch a true open-source solution finding project focused on the common good. Teach non-profit organizations how to use new technology to engage their audience, mine for ideas, and then explore them further. Teach governments and corporations how to embrace the ideas that their audience (and the audiences of nonprofits committed to these intersts) are coming up with. I hope this would get groups out of the same old model of just trying to support their own organizational existence and instead look at tackling some of the vexing problems of our society.
