"Energy-Calc" Measures cost of running household appliances
Wonder what that old freezer is costing to run? Plug in the night-light sized "Energy-Calc", enter the kilowatt price from your electric bill into the unit's keypad, plug the freezer into it, and - voila - up on the LED screen pops the cost of running the appliance for an hour/day/month/year. WOW!
Idea Description
This "green" calculator could potentialy save billions of dollars now spent on energy for running old and/or inefficient appliances by unknowing owners. Energy bills don't itemize where energy is being consumed, only total household energy usage. However technology already exists to manufacture a relatively simple unit which would contain a user-friendly keypad with prompts to enter the KWH price and how often an appliance is used. A small built-in LED screen then provides the cost/use info, helping to make intelligent energy decisions. Like dump that garage freezer costing $300 a year that only holds sale turkeys and ice! Or feel free to use an efficient space-heater whenever you're cold!
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
First off, seek and hire an electronic specialist to spec out the technical requirements. A designer would be found to make the "Energy-Calc" look styling, not nerdy, but still functional. (Remember motorcyle helmets only became popular after they became fashionable!) One major consideration is keeping the final cost low, many frugal bill-payers would be happy to spring $20-$30 for this item, it could potentially save them hundreds! And think how popular they would be lending it to all their friends! A great venue would be low-cost units supplied to public libraries; patrons could check out the "Energy-Calc" and whole communities would be "greener". Patent rights would need to be pursued.
Vote for it now.

Q1: Thanks for your consideration. Has anyone ever heard of anything similar?

I like your idea; I want to improve your odds of getting funding I will vote for your idea if you will vote for mine. My idea is for a web site that raises money for inventors and entrepreneurs called New Idea website Check out my idea blob submission and visit New Idea Website and see what I can do for you. http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/4060-NEW-IDEA-WEBSITE The need for jobs is one of the biggest problems that a democratic government faces because creating jobs is an unwanted byproduct of business and industry. The reason I say its unwanted is the more jobs a business creates the more its expenses are and the smaller it’s bottom-line. If business and industry have their way they would run their companies with no jobs at all no management or labor. To deal with this dilemma I pr…moreopose a federal venture capital carrot fund that literally pays entrepreneurs to create jobs. The investment bank would be expected invest in seed level startup projects like yours and to lose money at a specified dollar per jobs ratio for example during hard times that figure may be as high as $20,000 per job and good times the figure may be as low as five dollars per job, by controlling this ratio the fed could roughly control unemployment. The bank will be expected to fund novel products and services and stay away from things like restaurants that will simply draw jobs from other restaurants or moving factories from one part of the country to another. If you like this idea vote for it and send the congressional letter from the website. Sincerely Frank Scruggs

I really like this idea at first but then start to wonder how much it would be used. I am energy efficient, but would I walk around to every appliance in my house and test it. Also, once I buy it, isn't it too late to test it - I'm stuck. It may be more effective to figure out how to make the energy star ratings better.
