The SoloBagger
Imagine never having to struggle to hold open a trash bag with one hand and dump your leaves or garbage in with the other. With the Solo Bagger you can focus on managing the waste or other items you would like to place in the bag while the bag holds itself open!
Idea Description
Imagine a lightweight durable plastic or aluminum device that will hold a garbage bag open on it's own. It's designed to be held with one hand and it can be placed against your hip for stability. Then you're able to use your other hand to place items into the bag with no problem at all. One edge of this device is flat and allows you to place it flush against the ground so you can sweep leaves or dirt or any other items into the bag. Imagine never needing to ask someone to, "Hold this open for me so I can put this in!" *UPDATE* Maybe build it into the rim of a trash can so it doesn't get lost easily. Just snap it off the rim of the can with bag already intact and run with it.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
My first step would be to contact a patent search agency to discover if there was already an idea such as this out there, if not, then I would apply for the patent. Then begin the process of prototyping and then marketing this idea to major manufacturers such as rubbermaid or hefty.
Vote for it now.

Q1: Has anyone ever been able to get an idea patented and pushed through to selling it?

I like your idea; I want to improve your odds of getting funding I will vote for your idea if you will vote for mine. My idea is for a web site that raises money for inventors and entrepreneurs called New Idea website Check out my idea blob submission and visit New Idea Website and see what I can do for you. http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/4060-NEW-IDEA-WEBSITE The need for jobs is one of the biggest problems that a democratic government faces because creating jobs is an unwanted byproduct of business and industry. The reason I say its unwanted is the more jobs a business creates the more its expenses are and the smaller it’s bottom-line. If business and industry have their way they would run their companies with no jobs at all no management or labor. To deal with this dilemma I pr…moreopose a federal venture capital carrot fund that literally pays entrepreneurs to create jobs. The investment bank would be expected invest in seed level startup projects like yours and to lose money at a specified dollar per jobs ratio for example during hard times that figure may be as high as $20,000 per job and good times the figure may be as low as five dollars per job, by controlling this ratio the fed could roughly control unemployment. The bank will be expected to fund novel products and services and stay away from things like restaurants that will simply draw jobs from other restaurants or moving factories from one part of the country to another. If you like this idea vote for it and send the congressional letter from the website. Sincerely Frank Scruggs
An elegant solution to an annoying problem
Very interesting concept, although I can see myself not being able to find the solo bagger in my garage and then still having to ask someone to hold the bag open for me.
Great idea. Every time I struggle opening a trash bag I wish there was some device to make it easier. It would be great if the "soloBagger" was somehow built into the trash bag.
