online therapy clinic
Online therapy offers clinical services, by licensed professionals. Therapy/counseling is completed via phone, email, webcam or IM. It allows more flexibility in the clients daily schedule. It also provides resources to those in need. In addition, it assists those who have anxiety and shame issue
Idea Description
Online therapy has similar success rate as traditional counseling. It is therapy in the form of email, IM, webcam, or phone contact. It is a business that is growing rapidly for the following reasons: TIME: allows client to email at any available time, IM or phone without having to drive to an appointment, MONEY: It is cost effective, without having to go through insurance company, CONVENIENCE: Can type an email at lunch or 3am. Many people are unable to get to an office for therapy because of schedule, lack of transportation, housebound, or medical/psychological limitations RESOURCES: Many communities do not have clinical services.

What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Secure all equipment necessary (computer, phones, printers), advertisement (web, search engines, pamphlets, magazines, ect), secure all licensing and insurance, seperate business from person, secure locations for presentaions to educate community and promote business. Give monthly free seminars to the community to promote business and to give back to community members. I would also promote the idea that there is no need for shame to engage in therapy. Therapy can be a wonderful tool to get back on the path to wellness.

I think this is a great idea and will be helpful to many people.
Fabulous idea. I think this will be very helpful
I'm a psychology student and this idea could jeapordize professional ethical standards. Therapists cannot completely engage with clients without being there in person, because nonverbal cues are very important in assessing client state of mind, counselor intent, and even verbal translation of meaning. Typed correspondence lacks so much information that most professionals would shy away from this idea. Licensure is very strict and so are ethical demands of professional organizations. It would be very difficult to launch a successful internet therapy clinic, because it goes against what most professionals believe in.
I agree that it is hard to hear non verbal cues in writting. This is a challenge. Website offer phone and webcam as well. Actually there are already quite a few online therapy clinics established and are doing well. Online therapy has been around for about 8 years. The more established have about 20+ therapists on board. It is not an ethical issue, as it can help so many people who otherwise would not go to therapy because their fear or lack of resources. i appreciate your feedback
I wanted to do a little more research about what else is happening in the field of psychology. Therapy is not the only clinical service that has expanded to telecommunications. Psychiatry has also gone to telecommunication to provide services in areas that do not have providers.
As a note, I do have the site published, if anyone wanted to view what online therapy looks like www.onlinetherapyclinic.net
