Q1: Can I choose the charity that I want to donate to?
(1 pieces of advice)
by j5uh07.15.08 | 05:44 PMYes, we are planning to make a drop down menu which you can choose from during your check out process and choose from a list of charities we will be affiliated with.
The charity list is an on going changing list. I believe we should stay as organic and fluid as possible with changes to come. The world is always forever changing and so are the needs. Are you sure you want to report as abuse?

by peterjang7307.07.08 | 01:28 PMSounds like a great idea to rotate different charities annually!

by j5uh07.07.08 | 10:18 AMWhen you purchase a photo, the 8x8 photo will be framed in a nice black frame, printed on quality Kodak paper, and shipped to you directly. The framed photographs will be ready to be hung on the wall out of the box.
When you purchase a song from onetune.org, the song will be in mp3 format, possibly 192 kbit/s, and downloadable straight from the website after purchase. Are you sure you want to report as abuse?

Q3: What charities will you donate to?

Are you sure you want to report as abuse?
07.09.08 | 10:16 AMOkay, I'm moving this to the right spot now! Sorry about that... NetworkforGood.org is a great place to find all kinds of charities. I've found amazing "less well known" charities here, who need support, and less resources than the "brand name" charities. After you pick a few charities, use CharityNavigator.org to help make sure the charity is legit and spending money in the most effective ways. Maybe since you are raising money through art and music, you can support charities who help artists and musicians, as well as other great causes. Just type in key words "art" or "music". (Two of my personal favorite overall charities are DonorsChoose.org --helping teachers, and ModestNeeds.org--helping people stay above the poverty line in the USA).
Are you sure you want to report as abuse?
by j5uh07.07.08 | 10:17 AMWe will be initially contacting about 10 charities from all over the world. Only criteria is that they are a functioning, well known charity. One idea for onefoto.org is to change the charity annually between different photography contest. That way we have a bigger impact in the amount we donate to the charities.

What advice do you have to help me grow my idea?
(12 pieces of advice)by KooDooZ
08.26.08 | 06:16 AMEmpower your community.
Here's language I just cut & paste from your website (createadifference.org): "WE collect photographs from Independent photographers around the world (this can be anyone), WE select the top 100 photos and add them to our online gallery, then WE sell them for $50." (yes, I capitalized the "WE" to emphasize my point.)
It won't matter (much) that your website was for social good, if the people you are hoping to attract don't feel like they can really be a part of the success.
What's wrong with empowering THEM to vote for the top 100 photos? Why not allow the photographer/musician to participate in a revenue-sharing model where s/he can elect to recoup some $'s or donate them directly to a charity?
I agree with many of the previous blobber advice. Your online community is not there just to "give" -- they want to participate. Let them. (selection of charity, selection of art, etc.)
Have you considered approaching animoto.com (there are others with similar business m…moreodels) which might be interested in a cross-promotion model. In this example, Animoto takes a sequence of images and strings them together with music.
If your site users were able to highlight their favorite music and photos leveraging "animoto-like" technology, it would create a compelling reason to get on the site and see what your users did with the submissions.
Think about how your site could give the "non-artist" participants as much ability to "create a difference" as the artists who submitted their content. Are you sure you want to report as abuse?

by death36007.11.08 | 11:35 PMI suggest you create a kind of system that will allow for users/donors to choose their own charity. i beleive all you need is a kind of license to accept donations for other charities, and then you might get more donors
Are you sure you want to report as abuse?
by ivnetfire07.10.08 | 10:02 PMWhen you say that they just need to be a functioning charity I hope that you are intending to verify their legitimacy. Many charities are set up as tax shelters or money making schemes for their founders. I think it might be good to clearify this process in greater detail.

I just checked out http://charitynavigator.org/ and I love it. Thanks for the tip there. I've been thinking about how I can find out which charities are maximizing there spending so that I know which charities to offer as an option.
Thanks again! Keep the advice coming. Are you sure you want to report as abuse?
07.09.08 | 10:12 AMOOps. I thought I was posting my next bit under "what charities will you donate to" sorry about that.

by j5uh07.09.08 | 09:53 AMPatronOfTheArts,
Thanks for that feedback. We've never thought about a profit setup for the contributors. We will definitely take that into thought and see what we can do. Thanks again! Are you sure you want to report as abuse?
07.09.08 | 09:48 AMNice idea! I had a few thoughts as you move forward that I hope are helpful. I would suggest gving some sort of percentage payment (royalty) even if it's a small one, to the artists who's work you are selling. This would honor and support your contributing artists financially, helping them to earn a living, instead of asking that they give work away for free. (Maybe this program could even give them the opportunity to earn back the cost involved with creating their music/art). I'd also suggest that you not charge any "entry" fees to the artists donating their works, unless you are offering them something of value (besides free advertising, because that's widely available on the net already). If this project raises money for charities, and at the same time, could provides artists with an earning opportunity for their works, I think it would take this to the next level. And that could be HUGE!! Best of luck.

07.07.08 | 10:13 AMI think it is great to Raise Money for Charities.
Just remember (if you have not done so yet), Think about what kind of charity you wish to start (ex: a non-profit organization as identified by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code).
It is a very hard task to operate a non-profit, however, let your passion guide you.
Remeber: Keep good/solid records.

Idea Description
1. So how do we raise funds and donate the funds to the charities? Simple, we have anyone and everyone who's a musician or photographer submit there creative work.
2. We will have a panel of judges to pick out the top 100 photos and hopefully we can find a framing company that can frame the pictures for us at a very good rate and sell the photos through the site. For onetune everyone's music would be accepted as long as the submitter owns all creative rights to the songs.
3. Once a photo/song has been sold through the website, you will be able to select which charity to donate to during check out process.

What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
We are a non-profit organization and we have already registered in the State of Texas. Our next step is to apply for our 501(c)3 status to start accepting donations and to qualify as a tax exemption. Then we will use the rest of money to fund the build out of the e-commerce system for onetune.org and onefoto.org.
Because we need such an intricate music uploading/downloading platform, the money will help greatly.
Any money left over would go straight to marketing and advertising the websites so that we can begin our dream of taking the creative work of artists and using it to better our one world we live in.

this idea is powerful enough to actually make a difference in the lives of everyday people. if you're reading this, please vote, then tell your friends to vote. by just doing that, you can make a difference too.
@dreampod All profits that One World United makes from selling photos and music is tax free since we are a non-profit with a 501c3. Giving to another charity will still be tax free. @gamshi Thank you very much for your support, much appreciated.
whoa youre on the front page of the site. excited about the sprint lead. good luck!
Great idea, using your time & talent to help those who need it. Which charities will you support and have you researched if non-profit to non-profit giving is tax deductible?
Thank you guys!!!
This is such a great idea. This is going to be the next generation of ITunes for sure. I love it.
