Zion's Girls
Providing young girls tutoring, teaching the importance of volunteering, coaching on life and enrichment skills and training on entrepreneurial planning
Idea Description
ZIONS GIRLS was started in 2005. I got the idea when my daughter had a birthday party. I looked around the room at her party and saw young girls with different nationalities. I said, “wow wouldn't it be wonderful if they could teach each other and learn to grow together to be wonderful women of society?”
Zion’s Girls is a non-profit organization for young women from the ages 14-17, providing tutoring, teaching the importance of volunteering, coaching on life and enrichment skills and training on entrepreneurial planning. We are currently in the Maryland and Delaware area.
We had a couple of meetings and the parents were just excited about the organization. We received wonderful comments
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
The money will help with a location, mareketing material to expand in the delaware and maryland area, a van for transportation and materials
Vote for it now.
Sounds like a terrific idea. I've never been a 14-17 year old girl but if I was I would love to take part in your program. Hopefully you gain a lot of support so that you can enrich many lives. Keep up the good work!
There is such a tremdous need for this program, God speed in getting this program in action.
Deb, I'm so glad to see you went ahead and posted your program here! Good luck with the voting. Elizabeth
I LOVE the name! I speaks purpose and empowerment. Good luck.
You all are so wonderfully supportive thank you for your support
This might be a bizarre question, but I'm going to ask it anyways. You discussed people of different nationalities in the beginning of your idea-but you never elaborated. I just fail to see how a girls group meeting gels, exactly, with this concept of encouraging diversity. I just thought it was odd you mentioned their differing ethnicities, but didn't go on to state that a major goal was encouraging diversity and teaching the girls the importance of spreading the message of tolerance. If you are focused on diversity, I think you should advertise to both public and private schools in the area, to bring in children of different races and different economic levels. Without this step (of attracting new girls) I fail to see how this is anything but a club for your daughter and her friends…more (I didn't see anything about encouraging other children to join!)
Kudos to you! This is wonderful. I was a "big sister" in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program to an at-risk girl for 7 years (until she turned 18), and it was one of the most life-changing experiences in my life. The power we have to change these girl's lives for the better is profound. Do you have a website? I'd love to learn more about Zion's Girls! Best of luck. Cindy
great idea
Allerlierauh thank you for your comments. I would like to clarify the diversity in the girls group, it promotes awareness of culture. They will have an opportunity to share. The girls group is open to any young lady that is between the ages of 14-17. It is advertised in Maryland and it will be advertised in Delaware public, private charter and homeschool girls. I want the young ladies to have a opportunity to be a part without restrictions. I have worked with young people for over 20 years volunteering, mentoring, educating and trying to be an advocate promote an environment of striving for excellence in life. I thank you again you for your comments. Please if you have any other thoughts you can also email me at forwardmotivating@yahoo.com
I think this is a great idea. If you launch and ever think of expanding, i would love to help you go national. fantastic job!!!
Bless you for your insight and compassion! I've been trying to get a self esteem group going here in Maine and it's so frustrating that many school officials just don't see the need. Women have such poor role models now in our MTV society, it's wonderful to see such a positive force in you Deb! Nancy Tozier
Great!!!!
