HMWRK.COM The Social Network For School Kids Doing Homework Together
Idea Description
Kids all over the country take the same courses and learn the same things. I noticed my 12-year old nephew IMing with his friends as he was doing his homework. I asked him if that was taking time away from getting the work done. "Oh no" he said "We're all doing the same assignment together and helping each other." I thought 'they could be anywhere' and anyone could help someone else anywhere and anytime. You could have a website that students can log into and find 'cohorts' of kids around the country who are working on the same assignments, problems, homework.
They help each other now, why not make it easier to find people when you need their help. We could even provide incentives.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Talk with teachers and students, build the website and they will come after we bang the from loudly enough and the site goes viral. We would build incentives into the program ... for the kids that got an "A", for Mentors who volunteer to 'teach other kids', for kids that other kids think are the most helpful.
Vote for it now.

Q1: Getting students to use the site to build networks to work together on their after school assignments.
Lorax: It would work like a portal into a chat room. Teachers in each subject area can act as Monitors as well as Mentors ... retired teachers are all over and are looking for education-related work to keep them involved with kids. And yes they use the same texts ... some states may go with Houghton-Mifflin others with McGraw-Hill, but the contents do not vary as much as the pricing deals the salespeople cut with the districts.
I like this idea. Would this be like a chatroom or message board? Who would monitor it? How many kids are actually learning from the same texts?
